I've been a keen amateur photographer for a long time, having had film SLRs from being young. For many years I ran Ricoh & Pentax 35mm SLR's (both PK Mount), however never really experimented whilst using film.

All that changed shortly after idly browsing eBay, I found you could get a digital SLR for what was at the time (2005) 'silly money'. A Nikon D1 first caught my attention, before I finally settled on a Canon D30, having made the decision, now was the time to swap mounts from Pentax. The D30 was Canons first 'prosumer' digital SLR body, launched in 2000, offering a clean noise free 3mp and getting me onto the long deep slide into the world of digital slrs. The only problem is then it becomes addictive, you need lenses, memory, batteries, flashgun, lenses, memory, lenses, cleaning equipment, and did I say lenses? Thank god for eBay cheap internet shopping, I've already built up a much better set up than I ever did with years of a film SLR. Late 2006 I found myself upgrading to a Canon 400D, a bit smaller and not so 'sturdy' as the D30, but offering much higher MP counts, bigger screen, and a host of other features. Though going from the D30 the 'battery grip' was definitely a requirement for the 400D for me.
